Royal Fun

Today was a fun run. We all met up in our usual place next to our track and because our coach can’t meet with us we had our usual B.S. session where we threw out ideas to run. Jokingly, I said: “hey lets do ten hill repeats at central park or something.” I wasn’t feeling the whole nine mile run thing, because in our lovely little city there are really only three, straight, boring, monotonous ways to go. Surprisingly, all 12 or 13 people unanimously agreed with me. If that wasn’t a stroke of luck then I don’t know what is. Oh wait, I do, because it turns out the only two cars we had fit those 12 or 13 people exactly. So we packed up and went to our nearest hill, a hill about a sixth of a mile up, the same distance flat, and the same distance downhill. Luckily, this hill is also on a course we run three times every year so we added a little bit extra distance to match the course. At 0.75 miles long, we ran six intervals of this hill. So, with our ingenuity, we not only expended as much energy as nine miles, we did something relatively new, we practiced something we will definitely need later, and we all had a really good time doing it. I’d say it was way better than doing nine straight, boring miles, and we all decided that was a really good idea. Luckily, we all agreed we need hill work too so it was a pretty much perfect run.

On a completely different note, since this a music blog and I also talk a lot about running, I’m going to try and post a song of the day/post with every single blog post I make.

For today’s post, the song of the day is Out of the Black by Royal Blood. Royal Blood is pretty much brand new, with only four songs released at the moment. I heart Out of the Black on some random San Diego radio station that my mom was listening to and I used Shazam because it was a pretty sick song. They’ll be releasing their first full album something like August 25th, and right now they only have a four song EP. But whatever, they rock hard.
